David Kerr, Rockstar

Wise men talk because they have something to say;

Fools talk because they have to say something.

There are five magical words I would use to describe David Kerr, the award-winning web design guru who created my new and vastly improved website:

On time and under budget.

Marginal Prophet readers know I’ve been clamoring for a way to “brand” my writings. Back on July 25, 2013, I reached out in a Prophet post and begged for help. “You need to find a name that says who you are and what your writing is about,” said a helpful reader, “something along the lines of ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul.’” My idea of “Beef Stew for the Brain” was met by a sustained roar of chirping crickets. On the one hand, I pen stories reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell paint-by-number set. On the other, more disturbed hand, I wrote a novel that made even the people who know me best wonder if I shouldn’t be fitted for a straightjacket. Boy, did I need help.

How did I find David Kerr, given the throng of techies who call themselves “web designers?” Easy–by accident. Back in April, I hired Miss Branding Expert to show me the way to Andy Rooneyville. Part of her sales pitch included a complete redesign of my website, so she brought in the services of David Kerr Design. David’s advice was thorough, detailed, insightful and, most importantly to me, easy to understand. I was ready to sign on. But when I asked Miss Branding Expert for a estimate for the entire branding/website redesign exercise, she gave me a dollar figure which was almost as unsettling as “Pearls of Asia.” (I said almost)

But I really, really, really wanted to work with David. So after some soul-searching through my bank account, I spoke to David, and decided that between the two of us we could figure out a way to brand the musings of Lee Geiger. He quoted me a fair and budget-friendly price, and forecasted a completion date of early June.

David called early and often, and he patiently answered every one of my silly questions. Better yet, he made recommendations I hadn’t even thought of. In just a few short weeks he provided me with three different web page designs, each of which I could have been happy with. It was like winning the lottery and deciding to celebrate with Kristal or Dom Perignon.

Truth be told, somewhere down the line I expected a “it’s going to cost more money and require more time” call. Instead, David called in mid-May and asked, “Isn’t your book coming out on May 29th?” He worked extra hard and managed to finish my website in time to coincide with my book’s second coming. Now that’s what I call service.

Remember those five words I originally used earlier to describe David Kerr? I need to add one more.
